Eunice Mildred Gabel was born on June 16, 1922, to Leo and Theodocia "Docie" (Crow) Gabel in Perkins County, S.D. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm near Bath. Eunice played softball in high school and graduated from Bath High School in 1940.

Eunice was united in marriage to A.E. "Bud" Pirnie on Oct. 12, 1941, in Aberdeen. They made their home near Britton where they farmed prior to moving to Bath. Eunice was a devoted wife for 70 years and mother who lovingly raised their four children. Bud died on June 1, 2011, in Aberdeen.

Eunice was active in the Bath Methodist Church. She worked for several years in the Bath School lunchroom. She had a servant's heart and was a volunteer with the Red Cross Gray Ladies for 34 years. Watching Bath Little League Baseball was a favorite pastime of Eunice and Bud. She also was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. After Bud's retirement, they enjoyed camping and fishing together.

Her children are thankful for the many faithful friends and relatives who were a part of both Eunice and Bud's long lives. Though our parents seldom asked for help, we always felt comforted to know they were so willing to help if needed.

Grateful for having shared Eunice's life are her children: Jerry Pirnie of Bath, David Pirnie of Boise, Idaho, Judith "Sam" McGinnis of Boise, Idaho, and Rick (Tracy) Pirnie of Douglas, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Gab of Aberdeen; and brother, Jack (Shirley) Gabel of Silverdale, Wash.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents, Leo and Docie; granddaughter, Kelli Pirnie Bobbitt; three brothers: Leon, Floyd and Vinton Gabel; and her sister, Lois Sumption.

The family prefers memorials be made to Bath Methodist Church, c/o Kathy Jackson, PO Box 445, Bath, SD 57427.
