Jeanette Westphal was born Nov. 21, 1930, to Lillian (Maquardt) and George Adams at Gettysburg. She attended school in Gettysburg and graduated in 1948. She attended Chillicathe Business College, returning in January 1949 to work for P.D. Peterson in the Potter County Welfare Office.
On April 3, 1949, she married Glenn Westphal at Lake Benton, Minn. In June of that year, they moved to the Lee Westphal farm west of Agar. In 1951, they moved to the home place west of Gettysburg, moving into Gettysburg in 1984.
Jeanette loved to cook, which showed as she participated in many state beef cook-offs and won many blue ribbons at the fair. She loved to share new recipes. Because of her love for children, she started Mom's Morning Out at Grace Bible Church.
She was chairman of the swimming pool committee, co-chairman of Gettysburg Right to Life, a member of the VFW and the Hospital Auxiliary. In 1998, she was crowned Queen of the Hospital Auxiliary's Spring Fling.
On Dec. 18, 1981, she became a born again Christian, and in March 1982, she became a member of Grace Bible Church, serving faithfully as the church janitor for 16 years. After Glenn's death in 2005, her Parkinson's disease progressed, and she became a resident of the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include daughters: Glenda (Jeff) Varnell, Denver, Colo.; Lynette (Ken) Zimmerman, Waukesha, Wis.; Connie (Mark) Knell, Bismarck, N.D.; son, Bob (Deb) Westphal, Gettysburg; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Harriet Nelson, Houston, Texas.
