Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Marlys passed away June 18, 2013, at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Marlys Ann (Schott) Torguson was born on June 16, 1937, to Roy Henry and Anna Marie (Schumacher) Schott in Aberdeen, S.D. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in James and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in West Hanson. Marlys attended grade school in Gem Township and graduated from Groton High School in 1955. She continued her education at South Dakota State College in Brookings, earning a bachelor of science degree in home economics and science in 1959. On June 28, 1959, she united in marriage with D. Duane Torguson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Groton. They made their first home in Highmore, where she taught school. They later moved to a farm west of Lily, where they farmed and Marlys taught school in Bristol. Marlys stopped teaching to raise her family and helped on the family farm. In 1962, they purchased a farm north of Andover, where they raised their children and she resided until her death.

Marlys was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Groton, where she was a secretary and a member of Nigeria Circle and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She served as an assistant leader for the Putney Putovers 4-H club for many years and guardian and treasurer of Job's Daughters in Groton. Marlys was a member of the Eastern Star Diana Chapter No. 83 in Groton.

Marlys was a very active homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, gardening and playing cards. She took great pride in baking and cooking delicious meals for her family. In winter months, she loved to make colorful quilts. When her children were growing up, she would make them special outfits for her sewing projects. Marlys raised a large garden that she enjoyed canning and freezing to eat in the winter months. She also made many different types of jams and jellies.

On the farm, she spent countless hours mowing her large yard with her John Deere mower and watching her flowers grow. She liked to ride along to check cattle in the pasture and she had favorite cows that would come over and take an ear of corn from her. During the winter, she would ride along in her heated Polaris Ranger and help with morning chores. She spent a lot of time with her four dogs: Daisy, Dutchess, Scamper and Shep. They were very special to her and brought her much enjoyment.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Duane; her parents; her brother and sister-in-law: Clifford and Mary Jane Schott; and her sister and brother-in-law: Joyce and Nick Overmier.

Celebrating her life are her children: Lanny R. Torguson and Tanya Ann Torguson, both of Andover; and her brother-in-law, James Torguson of Andover.

Casketbearers are Loel Schott, Randy Wagner, Douglas Wittnebel, James Angerhofer Jr., Robert Sackreiter, Todd Aadland, Ryan Bunting and Howard Krienke.
