Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service and rosary held at 5 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Donabelle, was reunited with Christ on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at her residence in Aberdeen. While she will be missed by many, heaven welcomed home a beautiful angel.

Donabelle Youngerman was born on Aug. 4, 1927, to Theodore and Louise (Vogel) Youngerman in Aberdeen, S.D. This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, Donabelle furthered her education and received her teacher's certificate. She then taught country school for several years in the Richmond Lake area.

Donabelle married the love of her life and best friend, Earl William Backous, on Sept. 16, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in the country and farmed together until the early 1970s, when they moved into Aberdeen, where Donna would be employed as a cook at Roncalli High School until the time of her retirement in the mid-1990s. Donabelle and Earl raised eight children and shared over 54 years of marriage before he passed away on Feb. 17, 2003. Donabelle continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

In her spare time, Donabelle enjoyed playing bingo and dice games, fishing, going to casinos and cooking. She especially cherished time spent with her family and friends.

Blessed to have shared her life are her children: Terry (Deb) Backous of Glenham, S.D., Sharon (the late Dennis C.) Olson of Clark, S.D., Jerry (Ruth) Backous of Lisbon, N.D., Marcia (Ray) Schwan of Aberdeen, Jean (Paul) Yada of Burley, Idaho, Joan (Rick) Rozell of Huron, S.D., and Rick (Deb) Backous of Andover, Minn.; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Cliff Backous of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Jean Youngerman of Oregon.

Donabelle's parents; husband, Earl; son, Tom Backous; sister, Delores; and two brothers, Theodore "Bud" Youngerman and Gary Youngerman; preceded her in death.
