Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Nona went to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol at the age of 91.

The Price Funeral Chapel of Britton has been entrusted with Nona's arrangements.

Nona Evangeline Barbknecht was born Oct. 21, 1921, to Henry E. and Bertha (Kreizer) Barbknect at their farm home, 2 miles north of Havana, N.D. She was baptized Dec. 18, 1921, and confirmed on April 14, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Britton.

Nona attended all 12 years of school at Havana, graduating from Havana High School in 1939. She was very athletic and won many ribbons for high jump and short distance runs. After high school, she worked hard for many people in the Britton area.

On Feb. 15, 1941, she was united in marriage with Adolph Horn at St. John's Lutheran Church in Britton. To this union three children were born: LeRoy, Dee Anne and Theodore (Ted). They joined their half brother, Kenny whose mother had died five years prior to Nona and Adolph's marriage.

Nona loved the Lord and was an active, lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Britton, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years. She held many offices in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League as well as the Faith Circle. She and longtime friends, Eunice Mueller and Elaine Zuehlke, enjoyed attending many church conferences around the state.

Always very stylishly dressed, Nona was known for her coordinating outfits, from the clothes to her shoes and even her jewelry. She loved the outdoors. While living on the farm, she worked hard painting, feeding stock, mowing the yard and shoveling grain. Her love of flowers and working in the yard continued after she and Adolph had moved to Britton. She enjoyed working at the Britton Hospital for 20 years.

Adolph passed away Sept. 12, 1976. Nona found herself to be very capable in handling all of the land and business affairs.

For many years, Nona attended every basketball game, whether boys or girls, that was played in Britton. She was one of the Braves most loyal fans.

In July 2009, Nona moved to Spruce Court Assisted Living Center in Britton. Declining health made it necessary to move to Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in April 2010, where she was residing at the time of her death. Nona's family is most appreciative of the excellent care that Nona received from the nursing staff at both facilities and from Dr. Scott Purintun.

Nona is survived by her son, Ted Horn, of Bristol; her daughter, Dee (Mike) Jones, of Casper, Wyo.; her grandchildren: Lance (Wendy) Thormahlen of Casper, Wyo., Kelli (Mike) Slominski and daughters, Hanna and Lacey of Casper, Wyo., Kimbra (Dan) Squiers and children, Tucker and Jordyn of Dove Canyon, Calif., Londra (Brian) Wagner and daughters, Paige and Shayna of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Thomas Horn of Aberdeen.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a stepson, Kenny; a son, LeRoy; a grandson, Shane; and her siblings: Edward, Herb and Alma.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Johns Lutheran Church, PO Box J, Britton, SD 57430; or the donor's choice.
