The memorial service for James Albert Appl Sr., 68, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

 James died Monday, July 15, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen.

 Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a wake and rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.

 In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

James Albert Appl was born on Dec. 13, 1944, in Graceville, Minn., to Albert and Helen (Mohs) Appl. He grew up and attended school in Browns Valley, Minn., graduating with the class of 1962. On Jan. 21, 1967, he married Margaret Jundt in Leola. They made their home in Aberdeen, where he worked for DeVries Dairy/Land O' Lakes for more than 30 years when they closed in Aberdeen. He then worked for Aman Collection/Wells Fargo until he retired in 2009.

 Jim was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Whitetails Unlimited and Ringneck Coin and Stamp Club. He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and collecting coins and stamps. He will be missed by his all of his family.

 Grateful for having shared Jim's life are his wife, Margaret Appl, Aberdeen; children: Nancy Appl, Castlewood, Jim (Susan) Appl, Aberdeen, and Rebecca Byabato, Olive Branch, Miss.; grandchildren: Cody Smith, Jessica, Katie and Jennifer Appl, Robert and Isabella Byabato; siblings: Jerome (Peggy) Appl, Watertown, Marilyn (Richard) Butala, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Wayne (Marlene) Appl and Gene (Deb) Appl, Milbank; brothers-in-law: Bruce McIntire, Jake Jundt, Jerry (Phyllis) Jundt and Willard (Berniece) Jundt.

 Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Helen Appl; and sister-in-law, Marie McIntire.
