Sandpoint, Idaho: Douglas Dwight Cooper, 59, passed away in his home on Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Sandpoint.
Doug was born Jan. 26, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio, to Clyde and Mary Kathleen Cooper. After his schooling, he adventured to Alaska and went to work on the Alyeska Pipeline. He married Michelle Boutin in 1977 in Fairbanks, and they had two daughters.
Doug was a member of the Alaska Laborers Union, Local 942, for 27 years. After retiring in 2004, he moved first to Bath, S.D., and then recently to Sandpoint. He had a deep connection with nature. He was a great outdoorsman and adventurer, loved bird hunting, fishing in Alaska, and once hiked the Appalachian Trail. He had a witty sense of humor, an optimistic outlook on life and was extremely generous, kind and caring. Most of all, Doug cherished his relationships with his family and many of best friends, several of which he had known since his childhood. He was a "marvelous" man and he "had a good run." His spirit will remain alive in our hearts for eternity.
He is survived by his two daughters: Erin Cooper (Luke Brubaker) of Sandpoint and Amara (Steve) Norwood of Girdwood, Alaska; two grandsons: Nash Norwood and Cache Brubaker; father, Clyde "Bud" (Marge) Cooper, of Englewood, Fla.; two sisters: Deborah Hawkins of Portland, Ore., and Ginger (Rod) Kusumi of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Jeff Cooper of Columbus, Ohio; nieces: Gretchen Hawkins and Heather Branche; nephews: Rafe and Chris Kusumi; and his dog, "Buddy."
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1974.
