Margaret (Peg) Eid Haygeman was born March 5, 1921, to the Rev. and Mrs. E.C. Eid in Madison, Minn. She received her education in Lake Preston, S.D. The Lutheran Bible Institute of Minneapolis, and Augustana College, from which she graduated in 1944. She also received certification for specialization in gerontology from the University of Nebraska. She taught in Rapid City, S.D., and worked as assistant to Dr. J.C.K. Preus of the Department of Education of the American Lutheran Church.
In 1946, Peg married E.W. (Wil) Haygeman, an Augie classmate who had just returned from service as a B-17 pilot during World War II. While he finished college, she worked in the Augustana library.
Wil and Peg moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where Wil attended Luther Theological Seminary. After he finished seminary, the two lived and served churches in Fairview, S.D. (Bethany Lutheran), Sioux Falls, S.D. (Our Savior's Lutheran), Garretson, S.D. (Zion Lutheran), Aberdeen, S.D. (Bethlehem Lutheran), Madison, Minn. (Faith Lutheran), and Grand Island, Neb. (Calvary Lutheran). During those years, they raised five children. After Wil retired in 1988, he and Peg moved to Sioux Falls, S.D.
Peg was active in all the parishes Wil served. She was hostess to many guest speakers, taught Sunday school and Bible school, served as advisor to the women's groups, enjoyed leading Bible studies, was a Stephen minister and a hospital volunteer. She was employed as a family support worker in Nebraska.
Peg was grateful to her parents for the foundation they laid for her Christian faith and to her husband and children for the joy they brought her. She lived under the umbrella of forgiveness through Christ and in the confidence that God gives only good gifts.
Peg leaves the following family members: sons, Daniel (Nancy) of Bellingham, Wash., John (Barbara) of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Stephanie (Steve) Fernholz of Lester Prairie, Minn.; Kristin (Willi) Kurtz of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Sonja Browe (Tom) of Laramie, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Luthard (Vera) of Perham, Minn., and Paul (Lois) of Minneapolis; and a sister Audrey (Thor) Skeie of Hutchinson, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law John Browe; granddaughter Jessica Fernholz; brothers Edward, Wendell, Arnold and Donald Eid; and sister Solveig Alfred.
