Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, from noon to 5 p.m., with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Dorothy Heiser, daughter of Edward and Pauline (Lutz) Heiser, was born on June 20, 1923, near Greenway, S.D. This is the area where she was raised and attended school.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward Berreth on Oct. 24, 1944, in Greenway. They farmed near Artas, S.D., until 1949, when they began making their home in Aberdeen. This is where they remained for many years and raised their family. Over the years, Dorothy worked at the bowling alley and for the Aberdeen School System.
Following her husband's retirement, Dorothy and Edward purchased the drive-inn in Britton, S.D. They renamed the business Dolly's Drive Inn and operated it for seven years. During this time, the couple continued to make their home in Aberdeen. Dorothy's beloved husband, Edward, died on May 8, 2011.
Dorothy was a member of North Highland United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved cookbooks and was also an excellent baker and cook of German food. Her greatest joy came from the time she was able to spend with her family and she especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Dorothy's life are her four daughters: Joyce (Richard) Nelson, Aberdeen; Janell (Richard) Breyer, Pennsylvania; Kristi and Steve Ackerson, Aberdeen; and Cassandra (Bill) Eppard, Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren: Britt (Deanna) Nelson, Deirdra Kolb, Elisa Thomazin, Chris (Artist) Cloutier, Sarah (Brooks) Savage, Ryan (Jennifer Hassebroek) Gillespie, Dustin Ackerson, Brandon Nichols, Kevin Nichols, Jeremy Eppard and Chad Eppard; 14 great-grandchildren: Jenasis Nelson, Sealy Nelson, Matthew Thomazin, Genna Thomazin, Jack Cloutier, Louis Cloutier, Luke Savage, Will Savage, Chance Hassebroek, Trinitee Hassebroek, Arianna Riech, Kelsey Smith, Alex Eppard and Devin Eppard; and one brother, Willis Heiser.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers: Marvin and Salvador Heiser; and one sister, Marion Bertsch.
