Clifford W. 'Cliff' Maunu

Aberdeen/Raymond, Wash.:  Funeral service for Clifford W. Maunu, 81, of Aberdeen and Raymond, Wash., will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1708 8th Ave. NE. Aberdeen. Rev. Reino Maunu will officiate.

 Burial in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery (North Savo), rural Frederick.

 Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

 Clifford went home to be with his Lord on Sept. 5, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

 Clifford Wayne Maunu, son of Delbert and Sigrid (Groop) Maunu, was born Oct. 12, 1931, at home in Frederick. He attended school in a one-room school house through eighth grade and received his GED in 1956. Clifford joined the U.S. Army on March 31, 1953 and was honorably discharged on March 17, 1955. He attended NSU for two years for agriculture business.

 He was united in marriage to Patricia J. Bates on Aug. 18, 1957. They farmed in the Frederick area for 23 years until moving to Newberg, Ore. where he worked at a plywood mill, rock crushing operation and obtained his Oregon realtors license. In 1985, they moved to Raymond, Wash. where they owned and operated Maunu's Mt. Castle Motel until they retired in 2008.

 Cliff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a quiet strength and was committed deeply to family. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports, especially the Seattle Mariners.

 Clifford is survived by two daughters: Colleen (Verne) Little of Aberdeen and Connie (Jim) Craker of Shelton, Wash.; one son, Curtis Maunu of Raymond, Wash.; one brother, Jimmy (Barbara) Maunu of Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters: Ethel (Chuck) Moser of Spokane, Wash., Kathleen Barney of Esko, Minn. and Lorinda (Thomas) Lappi of Newberg, Ore.; seven grandchildren: Chad, Jared, Nathan, Joelle, Aaron, Alex and Alyssa; and four great-grandchildren: Katie, Levi, Alivia and Collin.

 His parents; wife, Patricia (2-14-2011); one brother, David; and one sister, Linda preceded him in death.

 Casketbearers will be: Verne Little, Jim Craker, Chad Little, Jared Little, Nathan Little and Aaron Maunu.

 Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen have been entrusted with arrangements.
