Wichita Falls, Texas: Emogene Mae Van Mill Roby was born on Nov. 13, 1926, in Rosholt to Charles and Ruby (Schutt) Van Mill.
She passed away on Sept. 8, 2013, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
After graduating from high school ,she accepted the challenge of "war jobs with a future" and joined the Cadet Nurses Corp Program and received her registered nurses degree, graduating from Bartron Hospital in Watertown.
Emogene married Claire Anthony Roby, in Watertown and had five children: Dianne Roby Thueson (Charles R. Thueson) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Nancy Van Vliet (Robert Van Vliet) of East Burke, Vt., Timothy Roby (Jayne Roby) of Verona, Wis. and Lynn Roby (Scott Kreider) of Terrebonne, Ore; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and one infant son, Douglas Roby; one sister; and a brother.
Mrs. Roby has been living in Wichita Falls, Texas for the last fifteen years, but lived in Aberdeen, Milbank and Watertown in the years preceding her move to Texas. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Roby worked as an R.N. in both hospital and nursing home settings. She retired as a state nursing home inspector for the State of South Dakota. She belonged to Homemakers and volunteered for the Adult Literacy Council. She loved gardening, reading, crocheting, and most of all, travel.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date and Mrs. Roby will be interred next to her husband in Aberdeen.
