Aberdeen: Dona Burckhard, 88, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Dona Danielson was born on April 4, 1925, in Aberdeen, to Kenneth and Elma (Swearingen) Danielson. She was raised and attended school in the Hecla area.
Dona was united in marriage to John "Barney" Burckhard on Aug. 16, 1946. The couple resided in Aberdeen for a short time before moving to Oakes, N.D. where they owned and operated the city bakery. In 1957, they returned to Aberdeen. Her passion, besides her family, lied in bookkeeping. She was especially fond of her years working with her friends at Courtney Books and Things. She and John shared over 63 years of marriage and raised two children before he passed away on Nov. 30, 2009. Dona continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death. She was a longtime devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and watching birds. She also enjoyed watching television, especially The Price Is Right, Bonanza and The Lawrence Welk Show.
Blessed to have shared her life are her children: Randy (Judy) Burckhard of Aberdeen and Colleen (Dave) Bourdon of Portland, Ore.; and two grandchildren: Shawn (Joy) Burckhard and Erin Burckhard.
Dona's parents; husband; and one brother, Daryl Danielson, preceded her in death.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave NE, Aberdeen, with Pastor Deb Grismer presiding. It was Dona's wishes to be cremated with interment to take place at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen.
