Guelph, N.D.: Warren Rex Hokana, 66, from the Guelph, N.D. area, was born Jan 8, 1947, to Rex and Irene (Wilson) Hokana. He attended school in the Ellendale and Guelph area graduating from Ellendale High School in 1965. Warren attained his B.S. degree in animal science at NDSU and was a true Bison fan. He enlisted in the United States Army as a field medic assistant, becoming Second Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he returned home to the family homestead to farm and raise black angus.
In 1987, Warren married Phyllis Christ, introducing him to a full family of six kids. They later divorced, but Warren remained stepdad and grandpa to all. He left behind many great conversations, wonderful memories and his best friend and partner Brenda Emery of 16 years. He was doing what he loved, tending cattle until the night when he died at the Hokana Ranch, Sept. 9, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex in 1984 and Irene in 1991.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Savo Lutheran Church, rural Frederick with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating.
Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
Visitation continues one hour prior to church services. Burial is at North Savo Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.
