Bristol: Gerald Bartell, 81, of Bristol died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bristol.
Burial will be at Bristol Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bristol, with a wake service at 7 p.m.
Gerald (Jerry) Bartell was born at home in Oak Gulch Township on Dec. 23, 1931, to Martin and Bertha (Fromberg) Bartell. He graduated from Webster High School in 1949, where he was active in FFA. After graduation, he farmed with his father and brother George on the Bartell homestead.
In 1976, he went to work for Hartung Elevator and millwork out of Aberdeen. He then started his own business after they closed.
He married Mary Anne LaBrie at Conde on June 1, 1954. They continued to live on the homestead until 1998, when their house burned down. They then moved to the Bristol area.
Jerry was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Bristol.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and Arabian horses.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 59 years Mary Anne of Bristol; his children: Debra (Mark) Brandlee, Bristol, Lonnie (Coral Stanton) Bartell, Aberdeen, Tamra (Michael) Herr, Bristol, Teresa (Jay) Peterson, Aberdeen, Morrie (Karin) Bartell, Bristol, Susan (Jim) Johnson, Arden Hills, Minn., Kevin Bartell, Lexington, Ky. and David (Alia) Bartell, Fargo, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his parents; grandparents; and brothers: Maurice and George.
