Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alfrieda R. Konrad was born Oct. 12, 1918, to Jacob and Magdelina Konrad in Kulm, N.D. This is the area where she grew up and attended school, graduating from the eighth grade.
On June 7, 1941, she married Reuben Schock at Ellendale, N.D. They farmed for a number of years in North Dakota before moving to Aberdeen. She worked at the Fanny Farmer candy store for many years and was a maid at the Sherman Hotel and also at private homes. She and Reuben were fond of dancing and spending time with their grandchildren. One of her hobbies was creating Sunday evening dinners for their children and grandchildren. In later years, their daughters cared for her and her husband. Reuben passed away on Oct. 22, 2000. Alfrieda sampled Mother Joseph Manor Assisted Living, but decided she wasn't ready to give up her family. She established her residence back in the Dakota Farmer Building in Aberdeen, where she remained until 2011.
Alfrieda was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She loved walking and would walk whenever she could. She also enjoyed flower arranging and freestyle art. Alfrieda especially loved to garden. Her neighbors said her yard work gave them a compliment. She worked diligently and often moved the flowerpots so the wind or hail wouldn't destroy them. Alfrieda was cheerful in all that she did. She was a helper in every way. Her attitude was "where there's a will, there's a way; I'll do whatever I can." The Lord's Prayer was her favorite prayer.
Her memory lives on with her daughter, Sandra Rivett of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. Daughter Myra Cantu of Westminster Colo., joined Alfrieda in heaven, passing away on Nov. 29, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Schock; daughter, Doreen Bodin; parents, Jacob and Magdelina Konrad; four brothers: David, Emil, Oscar and Otto; and five sisters: Ida Bader, Elsie Bader, Olga Schock, Emma Hildebrand and Tillie Franz.
