Mass of Christian burial for Rose Rieger, 101, of Aberdeen, will be 2 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 Second Ave. N.E., Aberdeen with Father Jordan Samson presiding. Burial follows at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation at the mortuary will be 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour before Mass at the church on Monday.
Rose passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Rose Reszler was born on Oct. 6, 1911, to John and Katherine (Weiss) Reszler at Wetonka, S.D. After her birth, the family moved to Ipswich, S.D. Rose's mother passed away when she was 10 months old. At the age of one, she was adopted by Adam and Katherine (Kraft) Sitter.
Rose attended grade school at Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1929. She worked at the ASC office in the Edmunds County Courthouse in Ipswich until the time of her marriage.
Rose was united in marriage to John J. Rieger on May 19, 1936, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. They made their home in Aberdeen, where in addition to being a homemaker, she also worked at Olwin Angell Store and the Gift House Stamp Store. The couple shared nearly 60 years of marriage before John passed away in 1995.
Rose was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society and the National Catholic Order of Foresters for over 60 years. She was also a member of several bridge clubs.
Blessed to have shared her life are her daughters, Bernadette (Ronald) Schmidt of Aberdeen; Rose Marie Berlin of Bath, S.D.; Kathleen (Randy) Wertz of Glenham, S.D.; and Camille (Ken) Wolff of Aberdeen; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Rieger, of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Joseph J. Rieger; and her parents.
