Virginia 'Ginger' Pieplow

Aberdeen: Funeral service for Virginia "Ginger" Pieplow, 93, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Kline St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Jennifer Turick officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign her online guestbook at schriversmemorial.com.

 Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at the mortuary. Visitation continues for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

 Virginia passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

 Virginia Lee Peery was born Dec. 1, 1919, to James Everett and Bessie May (Flinn) Peery in Wichita, Kan. At a young age, she moved with her family to Hutchinson, Kan., where she was raised and graduated from Hutchinson Central High School in 1937. She also attended and graduated from Hutchinson Junior College. In her early years, she was active in Girl Scouts and received their highest award, the Golden Eagle. She was also an avid swimmer and later became a certified lifeguard.

 Ginger met E.C. Pieplow during her freshman year in high school, and married her high school sweetheart Aug. 4, 1939, in Hutchinson, Kan. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2002.

 Mike Pieplow was born June 9, 1945, in Kansas. They lived in Newport, R.I., and Norfolk, Va., before moving to Aberdeen in 1941. E.C. was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at various locations for four years. After his honorable discharge November 1945, they returned to Aberdeen and have resided here since that time. They both were very active in many civic and community affairs. E.C. served as a state legislator and was vice president of First National Bank, now Wells Fargo.

 Ginger was an avid bridge player and helped organize her own bridge club in 1946, which is still going strong today. She was an avid golfer and was a five times women's city champion. She enjoyed the outdoors. She was a devoted gardener and won the yard of the week award twice.

 Ginger was a member of Aberdeen Country Club and a life member of Moccasin Creek Country Club, the Red Cross, the founding member of J.C. Etts, the Aberdeen Elk's Club, a member of the P.E.O. chapter and served as president and served on the board of directors for the Y.M.C.A. and the Northeast Mental Health Center. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon of the church.

 Ginger is survived by her daughter-in-law, Katheryn Pieplow of Boulder, Colo.; three grandchildren: Sarah of Boulder, Colo., Aaron of Minneapolis, Minn., and Nathan of Boulder, Colo.; one great-grandson, Kia Flinn Pieplow; and several nieces and nephews.

 Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Michael; and two sisters: Florence and Kay.

 Virginia preferred memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen.
