Doloris M. Zuber was born Feb. 9, 1920, to George and Anna (Phillips) Zuber in Potter County, SD.
On Aug. 7, 1937, she married Lyle B. Tennant and enjoyed a married life lasting 72 years until his death March 10, 2010. Doloris and Lyle had eight children who were in the Gettysburg Public School System for 39 years, which required her continual involvement in school activities and duties. They also have 20 grandchildren (to whom she was a professional, loving grandmother) and 24 great-grandchildren.
After the youngest children were older, Doloris continued her education to earn a degree as an accountant and tax professional, even though she had worked as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for the family's trucking business for over 50 years.
Doloris was a member of Gettysburg Methodist Church for 72 years, during which she served as Sunday school teacher, superintendent, MYF leader, Bible school teacher, UMW president and other offices and committees, Circle president and all offices and committees, and provided transportation for elderly to those activities. She was also a Cub Scout Den mother, Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years and active in many civic, community and social organizations.
She is survived by her eight children: Phyllis Robinson of Dillon, Mont., Leila Tiegen-Woods of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Mary (Dennis) Hagny of Gettysburg, Maurice "Mick" (Karen) Tennant of Lebanon, Sheila (Jim) Beringer of Rapid City, Brian (Lorraine) Tennant of North Ogden, Utah, Brad (Brigid) Tennant of Aberdeen, and Tony (Donna) Tennant of Springfield; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her parents; infant son, Gerald Dean; two brothers and two sisters; daughter-in-law, Melissa Tennant; sons-in law: Bob Robinson, Donald Tiegen and Ken Woods.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Doloris's arrangements.
