William "Bill" Herman, son of Robert and Edna (Wettstein) Herman, was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Conde. He was raised on a farm near Conde and graduated from Conde High School. He went on to attend Northern State College and later the Aberdeen School of Commerce. Bill worked several jobs in Aberdeen for several years.
Bill was united in marriage to Sandy Hoops on June 12, 1979, in Ferney. To this marriage two children, Aaron and Sadie, were born. He went on to own and operate Mr. Bill's Cafe in the Super City Mall and later went to work doing landscaping for Beadle Floral and Nursery. On Dec. 14, 1992, Bill was involved in an automobile accident that left him quadriplegic. He continued to make his home in Aberdeen to be close to his family and friends. Bill lived very independently for several years until his health started to fade and required more care. He was instrumental in the first Habitat for Humanity Home in Aberdeen, which was presented to him by Gov. Bill Janklow. For the past few years, he made his home in a nursing home facility in Milbank.
Bill loved his family and especially cherished his grandchildren. He liked the outdoors and always enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and always enjoyed playing cribbage.
Grateful for having shared Bill's life are his children: Aaron Herman of Mitchell and Sadie (Nick) Leicht of Aberdeen; four grandchildren: Regan, Riley, Sydney and Tucker Leicht, all of Aberdeen; one brother, Bruce Herman; one sister, Janette Imsland; one sister-in-law, Janice Herman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Doug, Richard and Gerald Herman; one sister, Marilyn Priest; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and one nephew.
