LeRoy A. Anderson

Redfield: LeRoy A. Anderson, 61, of Redfield died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

 His funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Christopher Hughes will officiate.

 Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

 Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.

 LeRoy was born Sept. 12, 1951, in Aberdeen to Lloyd and Ethel (Monson) Anderson. He grew up in Mansfield and graduated from Northville High School in Northville.

 LeRoy married Mary Seiler on Sept. 23, 1972, and they lived in Aberdeen for a few years before moving to Redfield in 1977. LeRoy was known as "Snappy" at the bowling alley before he worked at the Coachman Supper Club. He was the cook at Terry's Steakhouse for many years. He then worked at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for a few years in the kitchen.

 His grandchildren were his pride and joy; he spent many hours playing in the park with them and playing cards and games with them. He also enjoyed playing bingo.

 LeRoy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary, of Redfield; his daughter, Janell (Heath) Shottenkirk of Redfield and their children: Johnathan, Elizabeth, Alexander and Nichalous; and his son, Allen (Misty) Anderson of Colman  and their children: Sheldon and Shandon. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Anderson of Aberdeen; and his brother, Merlin Anderson of Huntsville, Ala.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jodi; and his siblings: Marlys, Lyle and Marilyn.

 Funeral services for Arwood F. Johnson, 60, Glenham, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham. Burial will be in the Glenham Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge.

 Arwood passed away, Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

 Arwood Floyd Johnson was born on May 16, 1952, to William Brooks Sr. and Norma Ione (Kuehl) Johnson on the family farm near Sitka, where he still lived. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member.

 After high school graduation, he worked for Milwaukee and Burlington Northern Railroad. Following a back injury, he worked, when possible, for Aero Dyna Kleen. In later years, Arwood took care of his brother, Forrest, who had a kidney transplant and was also helping out Leo Berens. Arwood enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and nephews, and gardening. He loved cooking for his family and friends, or anybody that would stop by, he fed.

 He will be greatly missed by his family, especially his nieces and nephews who looked to him for advice, for anything from hunting, cooking, and to fixing anything. He was a fountain of knowledge. He remembered every birthday from the oldest nephew to the youngest great-nephew.

 Arwood is survived by his brother, Brooks (Carol) Johnson Jr., Mobridge; sisters: Roberta Perman, Aberdeen, and Ione Enderson, Glenham. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews: Mark (Jane) Perman; Mitchell and Michael, Milissa (Lyn) Fliehs; Shelden, Jorden and Jayden, Kristi (Lance) Burns; Gage, Joshua (Nicole) Perman, Karla (John) Bieber; Zachary, Margaret, Victoria and Katrina, Bill (Crystal) Johnson; Patrick, Brooks, Zoey and Jorn, Karen (Dave) Vogel; Britten and BrookeLynn, Robert (Stacy) Johnson, Memorie (Randy)Carlson; Brandon and Tyler, Monique (Josh) Eldridge; McKenzie, Mariah, Lexi and Brooke, Monica (Kirby) Keller; Alex, Jacey and Taylor, Ryan (Darci) Enderson; Paige, Taige, Josten and Coby. Aunts: Mae Johnson, Lead, Enid Larson, Aberdeen, Jean Johnson, New Jersey. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents; great-niece, Shelby Gross, in 1997; brother-in-law, Marvin "Buzz" Perman, in 2006; brother, Forrest, in 2010; and Aunt Ruth Stanley.

Burial will be at Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Donald passed away Nov. 19, 2012, at his home in Selby.

 Donald Charles John Lemler was born April 3, 1939, in Mobridge to Joseph and Mary (Raba) Lemler. He moved with his family to a farm southeast of Selby when he was 3 years old. He attended the Selby School and served in the South Dakota National Guard and was honorably discharged on Feb. 28, 1965. He continued to help on the family farm and on July 30, 1959, he married Betty Hintz in Selby, and they took over the family farm.

 Don was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Selby. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Don also enjoyed all sports and tried not to miss a game. He greatly enjoyed working with his livestock, especially his sheep.

 Don is survived by his wife, Betty, of Selby; son, Donel (Kori) Lemler, of Selby; daughters: Jacklynn (Dave) Manning of Watertown, Pam (Erwin) Nyvold of Clear Lake, Laurie (James) Gates of Canton and Teresa (Aaron) Meister of Milbank; 13 grandchildren: Brandan (Jennifer) Manning of Las Vegas, Nev., Donald (Krystle) Manning of Sioux Falls, Tim (fiancé Jenny) Manning of Brookings, Bryon Manning of Sioux Falls, Beau Manning of Watertown, Jessica (Justin) Starr of Watertown, Lacy (Kirk) Beebout of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Laramie Schaffer of Clear Lake, Natalie (Chris Driscoll) Gates of Sioux Falls, Austin Gates of Canton, Tricia (Jeremy) Groenhoff of Canby, Minn., Mike Bomar of Phoenix, Ariz., Dylan Meister of Milbank; 10 great-grandchildren: Victoria Sarkkinen of Watertown, Jaden Hintz, Jenna Hintz, Jace Jellis, Jordan Starr of Watertown, Tylee, Jaxon, Harper, and Carter Groenhoff all of Canby, Minn. and Layla Bomar of Phoenix, Ariz.

 He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joy Lynn; his parents; one sister; and grandson, Charlie Bomar.

 Faith, family, farming and friends were most important to him.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Selby Area School Sports.

 Wayne Gene Wagemann, son of Walter and Shirley (Schlosser) Wagemann Sr., was born on Oct. 9, 1964,  in Aberdeen. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Wayne attended Brookside Rural School through kindergarten. He went on to attend school at Simmons Elementary, CC Lee, Holgate and Aberdeen Central High School.

 Wayne moved from Aberdeen as a young man, living in many different towns throughout his life. For the past five years, he was making his home in Billings, Mont., with his friends John Grue and Karen Gallagher. He was currently employed at Empire Steel Manufacturing Company in Billings as a welder.

 Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending rock concerts. He liked sports and especially enjoyed NASCAR racing and Minnesota Viking football.

 Grateful for having shared Wayne's life are his mother, Shirley Wagemann, Aberdeen; sister, Wanda Wagemann, Aberdeen; brother, Walter (Diane) Wagemann Jr., Ashton, S.D.; brother, Wade (Jennifer) Wagemann Sr., Aberdeen;  stepgrandmother, Dorothy Schlosser; three nieces; one nephew; two stepnephews; two stepgreat nieces; four stepgreat-nephews; four aunts; and six uncles.

 Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wagemann Sr.; three uncles; one aunt; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Howard Hieb

 Funeral services for Howard Hieb, 85, Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at First Reformed Church, Aberdeen, with the Rev. David Dawn officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Howard died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services of Aberdeen.

 Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m., with family present from 5 to 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

 Howard E. Hieb was born on Oct. 2, 1927, to David and Ida (Martel) Hieb in McPherson County. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. On May 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Florence Martell in McPherson County. Eight children were added to this union.

 The family settled on a farm in McPherson County, where Howard and Florence farmed. Later, Howard went on to work at Equity Creamery, followed by DeVries Dairy and finally for the Aberdeen Public School District, where he remained until retiring due to his health. Howard also trimmed trees part time.

 Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman. He never missed the pheasant season opener for 24 years. He also enjoyed gardening, going to the sale barn, taking drives in the country, breakfast with friends and listening to old time radio. Howard loved to go polka and waltz dancing with Florence. In his later years, he was known to spend hours sitting and visiting with others at Jeff's Marine Service and at D's Fast-food. His greatest joy was time spent with his grandkids.

 Grateful for having shared Howard's life are his wife, Florence Hieb, Aberdeen; daughter, Marilyn Hieb, Aberdeen; son, Veril Hieb, Sioux Falls, S.D.; son, Clyde Hieb (Cindy Herr), Aberdeen; daughter, Kathleen (Les) Jung, Aberdeen; daughter, Diane Dumire (Tom Hoffman), Aberdeen; daughter, Sue (Alan) Oberlander, Watertown, S.D.; son, Harley (Kristi) Hieb, Watertown, S.D.; son, Jeff (Cris) Hieb, Aberdeen; brother, Orvin (Alice) Hieb; sister, Winona Stoecker; sister, Della (Phil) Hanratty; sister, Jeanette Weisz; sister, Sherri Hyck; brother, LeRoy (Linda) Hieb; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred Christman

 Mildred Christman, 101, of Redfield, S.D., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Mildred was cremated and there will be a private memorial at a later date.

 Mildred was born Sept. 7, 1911, in Huron, S.D., to Gordon and Artie (Bendorf) Hampton. She graduated from Huron High School. After high school, she received her teaching certificate and taught school near Gettysburg, S.D., in Potter County for a few years.

 Mildred married Frank Schroeder in Hitchcock, in 1931. They lived in Hitchcock, and she worked for various businesses and for the city, including being town constable for a short time. Frank died in 1957, and Mildred moved to Redfield and was the head baker at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield until 1971.

 Mildred married Jake Christman in 1968, and they moved to Arkansas. They enjoyed traveling and visited 48 states at least once. Mildred and Jake moved back to Redfield, in 1992, and lived at the Village. Jake died in 1994.

 Mildred enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and especially enjoyed her Sunday visits from her family.

 She is survived by her son, Gordon (Mitzi) Schroeder, of Redfield; two grandchildren: Tracy (Jill) Schroeder of Redfield and Karen (Kirk) Harrington of Rapid City, S.D.; and five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

 She is also survived by her sister, Doris McNutt, of Texas, and her brother, Donald Hampton, of Huron.

 She was preceded in death by both husbands, one brother and four sisters.
