Brentford: Lucille "Lucy" Styles, 63, of Brentford died Thursday, Nov. 15, at her home near Brentford, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Brentford Congregational UCC Church. The Rev. Jon Damaska will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery near Brentford. Visitation will be Monday with the family present from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a foundation being started in Lucy's memory.

Lucy was born Sept. 29, 1949, at Redfield Community Hospital to Lester and Eva (Bau) Masat. She attended a rural school for four years and graduated from Redfield High School in 1967. She also graduated from Nettleton College in Sioux Falls.

On May 18, 1968, Lucy married Robert A. Styles in Redfield. Three children were born to this union. They lived all their lives in the Brentford area, where they farmed and ranched. She was an active member of the Brentford Congregational United Church of Christ since 1968 and the Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, past Matron and an officer for many years. 4-H was a major part of their lives when the children were growing up, with her being a leader and the kids all showing Angus cattle. The farm and Angus cattle were a big part of her life as she did all the bookwork for the farm and cattle and helped in the field also. While they lived in Brentford, Lucy was the town clerk for many years. She was relief postmaster for many years, starting in 2003. From 1974 to 1983, she played bass and harmonized with the Charlie Brown Band, Bob Styles and the Country Swingers and the Bob Styles Band.

Lucy enjoyed the time their family spent together and watching their children and grandchildren grow and participate in events.

She liked to read, fish and traveling, but being home was the best part.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her husband, Bob; two daughters: Laura (Doug) Braun of Mellette and Tina (Mike) Birgen of Aberdeen; one son, Chris (Erica) Styles of Brentford; six grandchildren: Allison and Tyler Braun of Mellette, Breanna and Brittany Birgen of Aberdeen and Madison and Sawyer Styles of Brentford; two sisters: Mary (Ron) Becker of Elwood, Ind. and Esther (Greg) Preszler of Roscoe; and one sister-in-law, Judy (Mike) Stahly of Cavour.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Eva Masat; her brother, Leslie; her grandparents, Pete and Esther Bau and Eman and Mary Masat; and her mother and father-in-law, Lowell and Myrtle Styles.

Gregg Allan Thompson was born on Aug. 10, 1955, to Charles and Arlene (Marks) Thompson at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Gregg graduated from Northwestern High School in Mellette, in 1973. He attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, graduating in 1977, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration-Management.

Gregg grew up on the Thompson family farm north of Northville; this is where his father injected the love of farming into his blood. Working hard in the fields at an early age on the farm, he was encouraged to participate in sports and enjoy time with friends, as long as the work was done. Over the years, he worked many different occupations, while experiencing life with a free spirit.

While farming the family farm, with his dad, it left winters available for his second love of his life . . . snowmobiling. He had stories to tell and many involved the snowmobile trips he would take to the Black Hills with all his many friends from South Dakota. He had been blessed to work as a farm manager for a farming operation stationed out of Fargo, N.D. They farmed many acres in different parts of South and North Dakota and Minnesota. The operation started farming land in Roseau County in 1997. Little did he know in 2000, he would fall in love with the love of his life and her family. He married the love of his life, KLynn Pigeon, on Dec. 31, 2005, in Roseau, Minn.

His favorite pastime was "hanging out with his honey," they loved doing things together, especially time with family and following Kiauni in basketball. He was one of her biggest fans, right next to her mom. Krystle looked up to him and he was always there for her. He always wanted to be there for both girls and support them and guide them into well-rounded adults. Not to mention the love held for his granddaughters, enjoying time with them and watching them play. Gregg had the wonderful opportunity this last year to be a mentor for his future son-in-law in regards to home ownership and his "jack-of-all-trades" experience.

He was active in the First Lutheran- First United Lutheran Church and served as President of the Church Council from 2006-2007.

Gregg's life ended suddenly here on earth on Nov. 15, 2012, at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau at age 57. He is in Heaven, with his parents, free of pain and breathing the fresh air of God's garden.

He is survived by his wife, KLynn of Roseau, Minn.; stepdaughters, Krystle Pigeon, (fiancée, Jevon Wallace) of Roseau and Kiauni Pigeon, currently attending Jamestown College; stepgranddaughters: Kalliann Solberg and Jayla Wallace both of Roseau; stepmother, Luella Thompson of Aberdeen; brother, Garry (Joan) Thompson of Pierre; sister, Dawn (Mark) Ruley of Baltimore, Md.; stepbrothers: Scott (Mary) Nelson of Mansfield and Stewart (Lisa) Nelson of Warner; in-laws, Earl and Marjorie Robinson of Roseau; brothers-in-law: Dean (Sally) Robinson, Richard (Connie) Robinson, Mark (Beth) Robinson, Ray (Sherri) Robinson, Scott (Becky) Robinson; sisters-in-law: Avis (Laurence) Wright, Cheryl (Larry) Eslick; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thompson and Arlen Burghart; and nephew, Aaron Robinson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. at First United Lutheran Church in Roseau. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Northville at a later date.

There will also be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Presbyterian United Methodist Church in Ellendale.

Ruth died Nov. 17, 2012, surrounded by her family at the Baptist Home in Bismarck, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Ruth LoRayne Ellsworth, daughter of William Charles and Bernice Marie (Wylie) Ellsworth, was born May 21, 1926, in Frankly Township, Brown County, S.D. Her family lived in several places within 10 miles of Barnard. She attended five years at rural school, then sixth grade through 12th, graduating from Barnard High School with the class of 1944. Ruth loved school and didn't want to miss any days, as her early ambition was to become a teacher.

Her teenage years were filled with work and play. She was a happy person. After school, she worked at the grain elevator, recorded ration stamps and as a waitress at a café and at JC Penney in Aberdeen, where she decorated the windows and made posters.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Hagen on July 17, 1946. They lived in Silverleaf, N.D., for two years with his parents, with whom he farmed. In 1949, they moved to Ellendale, where Ruth taught rural community school in Ellendale Township for six years, also working in the hotel café for two summers. She then became the Office Manager at the Ellendale Hospital. She started the Nodak Café in 1957 and in 1974 they sold the business after a very successful 17 years in the hospitality business.

Ruth was not one to sit around, even when she was busy while running the Nodak. In the early 1970s, she attended UND-Ellendale Branch, where she received an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. After a short stint of retirement, she went to work at Crabtree Insurance for a couple of years. In 1976, she began employment with the N.D. Truck Regulatory at the Ellendale Scale. Truck Regulatory later became a division of the N.D. Highway Patrol, where Ruth became one of the first women to wear a badge for the N.D. Highway Patrol. Ruth retired from the Highway Patrol in 1991. She then went back to work at Crabtree Insurance running the N.D. Vehicle Licensing division. After 52 years of marriage, Leonard died July 22, 1998.

Ruth was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron for two years and several other offices. She was President of Ellendale Federated Women for five years and President of United Methodist Women and held other offices within the church and served on the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Women Central District for eight years. She was a charter member of the Ellendale Historical Society, member of VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Ellendale Civic Association. Ruth was known for her good business sense, hard work ethic and strong desire to achieve when it was difficult for women to own and operate their own business.

Ruth was united in marriage to Joe Klein on May 13, 2005. They lived on Joe's farm near Zeeland, N.D., until they moved to Bismarck in 2008.
