Kay Lee Dosch

Aberdeen: Mass of Christian burial for Kay Lee Dosch, 77, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 Second Ave. N.E., in Aberdeen, with Fr. J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating.

 Kay's wishes were to be cremated, with interment to be held at a later date.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

 Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, with a liturgical wake service and rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.

 Kay was diagnosed with lung cancer on Oct. 27, and within a month, was taken from us. She passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.

 Kay Lee Schnittgrund was born June 9, 1935, in Redfield to Emil and Ethel (Julson) Schnittgrund. She was raised and attended school in Redfield, graduating from Redfield High School with the Class of 1953. Kay went on to further her education at South Dakota State University in Brookings.

 Kay was united in marriage to William "Bill" Dosch on Aug. 30, 1954. Their union was blessed with three children: Mike, Mary and Tom. The couple made Aberdeen their home and, together, shared a happy and fulfilling life.

 Kay worked as the Office Manager for Western Printing in Aberdeen for 26 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and then reading some more! Kay especially enjoyed playing cards with her family, even in those rare instances when she did not win. Above all, she treasured her family and kept track of all their accomplishments and important dates in her notebook by her recliner. Kay was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

 Blessed to have shared Kay's life are her husband, Bill Dosch, of Aberdeen; children: Mike (Nancy) Dosch of Seattle, Wash., Mary (Clark) Arneson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Tom (Marcia) Dosch of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Matthew, Brian and Kevin Dosch, Ben (Kelly) Arneson, Ross Arneson (Matt), Kay Arneson (Mark), Joe Dosch and Annie Dosch; and great-grandchild, Noah Arneson, son of Ben and Kelly. Kay is also survived by one brother, Jim (Jackie) Schnittgrund of Rapid City; and one brother-in-law, Marv Russell of Burnet, Texas.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jerry Schnittgrund and his wife, Maria; and one sister, Donna Russell.

Minnetonka, Minn.: Robert Jack McKenna, 91, of Minnetonka and formerly of Edina, Minn., and Aberdeen, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, with his family surrounding him in his final days.

 He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Pauline Hohler McKenna; his son, Thomas McKenna; parents, Roy and Hazel McKenna; sister, Kathleen Runyon; and parents-in-law, Harry and Gertrude Hohler.

 He is survived by daughters: Carol Dean (Craig) and Susan McKenna; daughter-in-law, Cathy McKenna; grandchildren: Allison Schmitt (Adam), Scott Dean (Amy), and Shawn Dean (Anne); great-grandchildren: Aidan and Anderson Schmitt, Colin and Kelsey Dean, and Henry, Charlie, and Amelia Dean; four stepgrandchildren: Michael (Shelly) Thone, Katie (Pat) Griffin, Chris (Andy) Thone, and Tom Thone; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

 He was born and raised in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central in 1938 and the University of South Dakota in 1942. During WWII, he served as an officer in the Navy for 3 years in the Mediterranean and South Pacific. In 1951, he and his family moved to the Minneapolis area, where he was employed by General Motors until his retirement in 1982.

 Memorials preferred to Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation, University of South Dakota Foundation, or donor's choice.

 Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

 Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m.

Ellendale, N.D.: Emil Fredrick Retzlaff, 94, of Ellendale died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.

He was born Sept. 12, 1918, to Carl August Retzlaff and Alma Elizabeth Wilhelmina (Kalbus) Retzlaff on the family farm in Albion Township, 9 miles northwest of Ellendale. He was baptized on Nov. 28, 1918, at Peace Lutheran in Merricourt, N.D., and confirmed on July 30, 1933, at Christ Lutheran Church in Albion Township.

Emil grew up on the family farm, attended rural school at Albion Township School No. 1 and also took courses in farming/bookkeeping, as well as mechanics/welding at State Normal and Industrial College, Ellendale.

Emil was joined in marriage, June 2, 1942, to Lois Evelyn Rollo on the family farm. They lived with Emil's parents for one year until they moved to a farmstead one mile east, where they lived and farmed full time until spring 1981. After semi-retiring and moving into Ellendale, he continued to farm until 2007.

He was an active member of Christ and later Zion Lutheran churches where he held various offices, was an assessor for several years, a member of the rural school board and hospital board and a township officer. He also enjoyed working and supporting the Republican party.

Emil loved boating as a young man, hunting pheasants and deer, shooting gophers, attending card parties in the winter and Fourth of July gatherings in the summer. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by four sons: Edward (Dianna) Retzlaff, Friendswood, Texas; Raymond (Earlene) Retzlaff, Huron; Kenneth Retzlaff, Ellendale; Warren (Anne) Retzlaff, Wahpeton, N.D.; one daughter, Dorothy (Alan), Wahpeton, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; brother, Carl; and son, James.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Alan R. Werth officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.

Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.

Faulkton: Altha Stammer, 91, of Faulkton passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at The Meadows in Faulkton.

 Altha B. Schilter was born June 29, 1921, in Athol to Herman and Dora (Batteen) Schilter. She attended country elementary school and graduated from Athol High School.

 On Oct. 16, 1940, Altha was united in marriage to Clayton Wilhelm. They established a farming operation in the Miranda area and had three children. While raising her children and helping with the farm, she was a member of the Happy Hustler's Club and a good neighbor and friend to all. Clayton passed away in 1961.

 Altha continued farming with her sons until she married Glenn Stammer in 1974. Glenn and Altha lived on a farm near Miranda for six more years, then retired and built a home in Faulkton. Glenn passed away in 1997. Altha had just recently moved to assisted living at The Meadows.

 Altha was a member of Tuesday Club in Faulkton, VFW Auxiliary, and the United Church of Faulkton. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and many relatives and friends. In earlier years, she loved to crochet. Altha also enjoyed raising chickens, working in the garden, canning and was a great cook. Everyone always enjoyed homemade cookies when visiting. Her grandchildren will always remember the annual angel food cake for their birthdays. Altha was a kind and gentle soul and always enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. She always had a smile and kind words to say about everyone.

 She is survived by her daughter, June Anderson, of Dixon, Calif.; son, Jack (Rita) Wilhelm, of Rockham; daughter-in-law, Pat Wilhelm, of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren: Clay (Holly) Wilhelm of Sioux Falls, Ryan (Sarah) Wilhelm of Sioux Falls, Stacy Anderson of Corona, Calif., Chris (Eric) Lefler of Davis, Calif., Sarah (Daniel) Griffin of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Penny (AJ) Coster of Sioux Falls, Matthew (Kelly) Wilhelm of Rapid City and Jason Wilhelm of Miller; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Altha was preceded in death by her son, Rolland Wilhelm; her husbands: Clayton Wilhelm and Glenn Stammer; her parents; sister, Ardis Schone; and brothers: Melvin, Glen and Clarence Schilter.

 Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Altha's arrangements.
