Jerry Head

 Funeral services for Jerry Head, 82, of Aberdeen will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, with Dr. Robert Myers and Dr. Harold Salem officiating. Burial and military honors at 3 p.m. at Hecla Cemetery. Jerry died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

 Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

 Jerry Pierson Head was born on Feb. 20, 1930, to Claude and Grace (Hixon) Head in Huron. Jerry's family moved to the Frederick/Barnard area, where he grew up and attended school. Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

 On April 16, 1950, Jerry was united in marriage to Leona Deahl in North Carolina. Four children were added to this union. Jerry worked a number of years for the Cutler Ranch in Frederick. Following that, Jerry went to work as a machinist for Hub City in Aberdeen.

 Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, for more than 50 years. He was also a longtime member of Local 862 Machinists Union. He loved fishing, hunting and helping Leona with crafts. One project of Jerry and Leona's won a purple ribbon at the Brown County Fair. Jerry also enjoyed woodworking, cheering for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Jerry's greatest joy was his time spent with family.

 Grateful for having shared Jerry's life are his wife, Leona, Aberdeen; daughters: Wanda (Marvin) Reszler, Aberdeen, Rita (Leonard) Voeller, Elkton and Susan (Isaac) Waldner, Webster; brothers: Edgar (Jewell) Head, Frederick and Donald (Irene) Head, Medford, Ore.; daughter-in law, Ann Heilman, Aberdeen; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Allen Head; infant twins, Joseph and Josephine Head; parents, Claude and Grace Head; and grandsons: Ryan Voeller and Erick Head.

Dorothy Marie Kettering

 Funeral service for Dorothy Marie Kettering, 95, Aberdeen, and formerly of Brentford is 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the Brentford Congregational United Church of Christ. Pastor Jon Damaska officiating. Burial following in the Mellette Cemetery. Dorothy died on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

 Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.

 Dorothy Marie (Christensen) Kettering was born June 27, 1917, in Turton. Her parents were John Lewis and Elsie Caroline (Teske) Christensen. Dorothy graduated from Conde High School in 1935. She attended Morningside College and Northern and graduated with a teaching certificate. She taught in a country school for three years. 

 On Aug. 30, 1941, she married Leslie Lamont Kettering. When Leslie came back from the war, they moved to the family farm. Dorothy and Leslie had four sons: David, Donald, Dennis and Douglas. Dorothy finished her bachelor degree at Northern State College in 1969, and taught elementary grades at Brentford School District. After she retired, she continued volunteering at Northwestern High School in Mellette.   

 Dorothy had many hobbies and loved any kind of crafts. She enjoyed working with children and helped them with sewing, ceramics, china painting and she especially enjoyed making quilts and knitting afghans. Dorothy was active in many church projects, Women's Fellowship and especially enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed helping her grandchildren with crafts and helped out in all 4-H projects with her sons and grandchildren. She spent many years as a 4-H leader and a member of the local Extension Club.

 Survivors are sons: David ( Nancy) Kettering, Donald ( Pam) Kettering, Dennis (Julie) Kettering; daughter-in-law: Diane Kettering; grandchildren: Kipp (Brenda) Kettering, Kim Kettering, Gregory (Teri) Kettering, Lance (Candie) Kettering, Chad (Belkys) Kettering, Jennifer (Corey) Doerfler, Heather (Ben) Brasel, Kara (Chuck) Welke, Kelly (Ben Johnson) Kettering; and great-grandchildren: Kylee, Ethan, Calvin, Emily, Jessica, Amber, Lila, Jada, Jasmine, William, Nicholas, Bailey, Tatiana; and one sister, Lois Trapp.

 Preceded by husband, Leslie; son, Douglas; and brothers: Harold, Jack, Dick and Frank Christensen.

Elsie Miller

 Elsie Miller, 86, of Bowdle died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bowdle, with the Rev. Winfried Schroeder leading the service. Burial follows at the church cemetery. Organist will be Candice Hoffman and ushers will be Gideon Schuh and Russell Bomesberger.

 Funeral home visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m.

 Elsie Reede, daughter of Lydia (Kilber) and Gottlob B. Reede, was born northwest of Roscoe on April 9, 1926. At age seven, she and her family moved to a farm south of Roscoe and at age 11, they moved to Bowdle. She graduated from Bowdle High School, Class of 1945. Following her schooling, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmer's Union Oil Co. in Bowdle. She then taught briefly at the Perman Rural School southwest of Bowdle in Walworth County.

 She married Marvin E. Miller on June 27, 1947, at Bowdle. They farmed on Marvin's family homestead 13 miles southwest of Bowdle, in Walworth County. Mr. Miller died Oct. 22, 1977, and Elsie then moved into Bowdle. She moved to the Bowdle Healthcare Assisted Living Center in September 2006 and since September 2009, had lived at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Elsie was a member of St. John's Church and the church's Ladie's Aide. She also belonged to the Bowdle Senior Center and was a member of the Rock and Rolling Pins Extension Club. Cooking, baking, and reading were among Elsie's hobbies.

 Elsie is survived by one son, Kim M. (Cindy) Miller of Bowdle; one daughter, Melanie J. (Delbert) Kilber of Sioux Falls; one sister, Lillian Hill of El Cajon, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her father, on May 20, 1978, her mother, on April 28, 1974; two brothers : Leonard and Roy; and two sisters: Agnes Meyers and Lorraine Trudeau.

 Casketbearers will be: Jeremy Schubert of Rapid City, Jake Bobby of Yankton, Perry Hoffman, Mark Bieber, and MyRon Zimmer of Bowdle, and Chris Carlson of Sioux Falls.

Helen J. Breitkreutz

 Helen J. Breitkreutz, 90, of Aberdeen formerly of Frederick died Dec. 1, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. She was born April 21, 1922, to Alvin and Louise (Nolden) Hoops near Groton. She was raised and attended country school near Groton.

 On July 15, 1944, Helen married Raymond Breitkreutz in Groton. They lived on a farm near Ferney until 1952, when they bought a farm near Frederick. In 1966, they moved into Frederick. Raymond died Jan. 20, 2010. In May 2011, Helen moved to Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Helen enjoyed bowling, playing cards and working jumbo puzzles. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, LWML, and the Frederick Homemakers Club. Helen died Dec. 1, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen.

 Helen is survived by one son: Todd (Becky) Breitkreutz, Minot, N.D.; three daughters: Diana (Terry) Ulmer, Hecla, Sheri (Roger) Nixon, Frederick, Nancy (Randy) Warburton, Newcastle, Wyo.; seven grandchildren: Bobbi (Scott) Hegge, Lori (Scott) Young, Amy (Buddy) Yamaura, Amanda (Jason) Mahan, Carey (Brenda) Hieb, Jason (Jen) Hieb, Dustin Breitkreutz; nine great-grandchildren: Sami Hegge, Dylan and Macy Young, Ryann and Payge Yamaura, Jenna and Karissa Mahan, Jordan and Madison Hieb.

 Helen was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., with Pastor Galen Sylvester officiating at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, N.D. Casketbearers are: Dustin Breitkreutz, Doug Jensen, Carey Hieb, Jason Hieb, Buddy Yamaura and Jason Mahan. The organist is Marilyn Burow. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.

Edna Marie Hauge

 Funeral service for Edna Marie Hauge, 85, of Aberdeen will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Deb Grismer will officiate.

 Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

 There will be a prayer service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with visitation from 3-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

 Edna died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home.

 Edna Marie Bolland, daughter of Esten L. and Tina Marie (Holland) Bolland was born Aug. 9, 1927, on Ash Grove Farm, the family homestead near Roslyn. She attended rural school, graduating from Roslyn High School with the class of 1945. Edna began working in Aberdeen, later moving to Sioux Falls.

 She was united in marriage to Carvel Hauge on Dec. 30, 1946, in Sioux Falls.

 They made their home in the Roslyn area where they farmed. They moved to Aberdeen in the early 1950s. Edna worked fulltime raising her family keeping food on the table and making their clothes. She cleaned homes and was the sample lady at Econofoods. From 1985 to 1993 she operated the "Something Else" flower shop.

 Edna was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting, feather crafting, flower and vegetable gardening and making Old Woodland Santa's and Snowmen. She liked to feed the birds in her backyard. Her home was an open house and her coffee pot was always on but "doors are locked at 11".

 Edna was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a former Cub Scout Leader and 4-H Leader and a former member of Homemakers Club and the Food and Fun Program.

 Edna is survived by her children: Marie (Doug) Jensen of Aberdeen, Terry (Judy) Hauge of Aberdeen, Diane (Don) Dabbert of Fargo, Connie McFarland of Brookings, Owen Hauge of Ferney, Trudy (Steve) Lodien of Chisago City, Minn., Kyle (Jamie) Hauge of Pillager, Minn., Shelly (Harold) Ahlers of Renner, Lori (Clarence "Bim") Habeck of Aberdeen, Kristi Hauge of Iroquois and Brian (Amy) Hauge of Aberdeen; one sister, Grace (John) Ward of Lebanon, Ind.; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Carvel (7-4-2010); two sisters: Pearl Millim and Joyce Lardy; and two brothers: Lloyd and Chandler.

 Honorary casketbearers will be Edna's grandchildren and Pat McHugh, Butch Sauvage, Mark Tolvstad and A.J. Hatle

 Casketbearers will be Terry Hauge, Owen Hauge, Brian Hauge, Kyle Hauge, Clarence "Bim" Habeck, Trudy Lodien, Kristi Hauge, Kenny Gruba and Don Dabbert Sr.

 The family prefers memorials to Fron Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Salvation Army in Aberdeen or Ne-So-Dak Bible Camp.

Sheldon Sheridan

 Services for Sheldon Sheridan, 53, of Groton will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Groton. Pastor Elizabeth Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. 

 Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

 Sheldon passed away Dec. 2, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. He was diagnosed on Nov. 15, 2012.

 Sheldon was born on March 7, 1959, to John and Marlene (Friese) Sheridan in Deadwood. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1978. Sheldon married Ann Martin on Oct. 9, 1982. He worked at 3M in Aberdeen for 34 years. He took great pride in his ability to mechanically fix the machines at 3M. Through his years of employment, he touched many people with his great sense of humor and keen sense. He had a way about him that made people laugh, whether it was a good joke, or a simple wave.

 Besides the love for his family, Sheldon loved dirt track racing. He competed for 17 years at the Brown County Speedway, where he raced in the street stock and super stock divisions. In 2003, he retired from racing to become the crew chief as his son, Brad, took the wheel of racing. The last two years he played double duty crew chief as his new son-in-law, Tony, also races! This sport was the love of his life, and you'd find Sheldon with his family at a race track every weekend during the summer months. He called these racing trips his family vacations because his family was always together at the various tracks. Through this, he has been enriched with many friends from the racing community.

 On Oct. 22, 2012, the new love of his life was born. His new granddaughter, Raelee. She was the apple of his eye and she truly helped him the last 3 weeks of his life. She was a true blessing for him.

 Sheldon is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Bradley; daughter, McKensey (Tony) Konold; granddaughter, Raelee; his mother, Marlene; siblings: Verdelle (Sue), Marilyn (Mike) Johnson, Nancy Hawkins, Kevin (Leslie), Floyd, Corey, Sharla, Ferlin and Danelle Sheridan; grandmother, Alma Sheridan; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He also considered Karen and Dale Wolter his chosen parents.

 Preceding him in death is his father, John Jr.; infant sister, Barbra; grandparents; Walter and Alice Friese; grandfather, John Sr.; and a very special mother-in-law, Leslie Martin.

 Sheldon was a very casually dressed person who usually wore a racing T-shirt or a Pittsburg Steelers T-shirt. Please feel free to attend with your racing T-shirt or Steelers T-shirt on.

 In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made to the Avera hospice program. 

 Honorary casketbearers will be Sheldon's fellow 3M employees and extended racing families.

 Casketbearers will be: Monty Forsting, Wylie Johnson, Michael Sheridan, Shaun Sheridan, Jeremy Nelson, Justin Kollman and Eric Garrett.
