Donald Kenneth Rahm

Donald Kenneth Rahm, 61, of Turton, S.D., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, S.D.

 Donald was cremated and his memorial service will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton. The Rev. Peter M. Utecht will officiate. thelenfuneralhome.com

 Donald was born on March 29, 1951, to Johnnie and Joyce Ann (Mannie) Rahm at Aberdeen. He was a lifetime resident of Turton, He graduated from Doland High School in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years during the Vietnam Era.

 Donnie married Lynnette Karlsen on April 8, 1972, in Clark, S.D. After his discharge from the Army, they moved to Turton, where he worked as a mechanic and later farmed. He left farming and went to work for Cenex in 1998, now known as Full Circle Ag. He liked talking with his customers and going out to visit their farms. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and going to Sturgis every year. He loved spending time with his grandkids, taking them to Storybook Land and pheasant hunting.

 Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Lynnette, of 40 years; his son, Darrin (Lauri), of Clark; a daughter, Heather (Clint) Abbott, of Smithwick; six grandchildren: Brooke, Paige, Emma and Kooper Rahm, Riley and Braden Abbott. Donald is also survived by his father, Johnnie, of Turton; his three sisters: Nancy (Larry) Coats, Sally (Loel) Larsen and Brenda (Bud) Hansen; many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce.

Mass of Christian burial for Rose Rieger, 101, of Aberdeen, will be 2 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 Second Ave. N.E., Aberdeen with Father Jordan Samson presiding. Burial follows at St. Mary's Cemetery.

 Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

 Visitation at the mortuary will be 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour before Mass at the church on Monday.

 Rose passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.

 Rose Reszler was born on Oct. 6, 1911, to John and Katherine (Weiss) Reszler at Wetonka, S.D. After her birth, the family moved to Ipswich, S.D. Rose's mother passed away when she was 10 months old. At the age of one, she was adopted by Adam and Katherine (Kraft) Sitter.

 Rose attended grade school at Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1929. She worked at the ASC office in the Edmunds County Courthouse in Ipswich until the time of her marriage.

 Rose was united in marriage to John J. Rieger on May 19, 1936, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. They made their home in Aberdeen, where in addition to being a homemaker, she also worked at Olwin Angell Store and the Gift House Stamp Store. The couple shared nearly 60 years of marriage before John passed away in 1995.

 Rose was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society and the National Catholic Order of Foresters for over 60 years. She was also a member of several bridge clubs.

 Blessed to have shared her life are her daughters, Bernadette (Ronald) Schmidt of Aberdeen; Rose Marie Berlin of Bath, S.D.; Kathleen (Randy) Wertz of Glenham, S.D.; and Camille (Ken) Wolff of Aberdeen; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Rieger, of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

 She is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Joseph J. Rieger; and her parents.

Martha Anderson

Funeral service for Martha E. Anderson, 98, Aberdeen, will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 214 Seventh Ave. S.W., Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson and Pastor Nathan Henschen will officiate. Burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Martha entered heaven on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012.

 Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

 She was born on the family farmstead southwest of Aberdeen on May 14, 1914, to Carl F. and Rosa E. (Winter) Wendt. She was the oldest of three children. Her mother passed away when she was 8 years old, leaving her father to raise the three children. She attended Brown County rural schools and graduated in 1934 from Aberdeen Central High School after attending her early high school years in Webster.

 She married Ray H. Anderson on Dec. 16, 1939, in Aberdeen. They were married for 49 years. This union was blessed with three children, Betty, Sandra and Howard. She was a devoted mother and farm wife. One of her greatest passions was gardening , evident by the size of the garden she tended for many years and the amount of food she preserved each year. For many years, she also enjoyed raising chickens and exhibiting food items at the Brown County Fair.

 She was a 4-H leader for 20 years, member of Brown County Extension clubs for 70 years, served on the Brown County Cancer Board for 25 years and was a 64-year member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was active in LWML circles.

 Survivors, who will miss her, include daughters Elizabeth "Betty" Knepke of North Platte, Neb., and Sandra Hobart of Pierre; son, Howard (Paige) Anderson of Aberdeen. Grandchildren Alicia (Duane) Brittenham of North Platte, Erin Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn., Ryan Anderson of Conde, Ray Anderson of Aberdeen; and great-grandson, Ethan Brittenham, of North Platte. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Wickstrom; nephew Richard (Rhonda) Wendt and their daughter, Emily, Ridgecrest, Calif., and nephew Allen (Rebecca) Trask, Deerwood, Minn., and their children.

 Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1989; son-in-law Duane Knepke; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Betty Lou Wendt; brother-in-law Elmer Wickstrom; and sister-in-law Myrle Trask and husband, Floyd.

 Memorials are suggested to Brown County 4-H Forever or the American Cancer Society.

Andrew Schumacher

Mass of Christian burial for Andrew D. Schumacher, 82, of Ipswich is 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Liturgical wake service is at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church with visitation starting at 4 pm.

 Andrew, or Andy as he was known by many, was born on Oct. 24, 1930, on a farm near Ipswich, S.D. He attended country schools and then went to high school at Assumption Abbey Prep School at Richardton, N.D.

 After graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1950 and proudly served his country until 1953. Andy then attended a technical school in California, where he attained a degree in Aviation Mechanics.

 Andy returned to South Dakota to help on the family farm the following summer. In 1959, he purchased the farm from his mother and got married to Marlene J. Famias. They made their home on the farm as Andy continued to work the land and raise cattle. He continued to live there until August of this year when he moved to Nano Nagle Village in Aberdeen.

 During his high school years in North Dakota, Andy started boxing. He continued to box during his military career and upon his return home. He attained Golden Glove Status and quit boxing around the time of his marriage with an undefeated record.

He was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and had helped to build the current church. He served as an officer of the Catholic Men's Foresters to which he had belonged for over 50 years. Andy was also active in the American Legion as a member for over 50 years and had served as the Sergeant at Arms. He proudly took part in many military funeral details.

 Andy's passion though was for tractors. In his lifetime, he worked on over 200 tractors, restoring many to near new condition. He liked to go to auctions as a social outing and loved to travel with his family.

 Andrew died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Nano Nagle Village in Aberdeen.

 Andy is survived by his wife, Marlene, of Primrose Place in Aberdeen; son, James (Janice) Schumacher, of Ipswich; daughters, Kris S. (Jeff) Tuschen of Salem, S.D., and Charlene (Tracy) Neugebauer of Parkston, S.D.; brother, Al Schumacher, of Hastings, Minn.; sister, Betty Kroker, of Spokane, Wash.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 His parents; five brothers, Adam, Mike, Paul, John and Joe; and six sisters, Mary, Kathryn, Ann, Delores, Lydia and Sr. Theresa, preceded him in death.

 Wynelle "Mac" Christensen, 88, of Redfield formerly of Athol, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. The Rev. Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.

 Wynelle was born on Jan. 12, 1924, to Alfred Lee and Nannie Mae (Williams) McKibben in Pavo, Ga. As a child, she lived in her hometown of Pavo, Ga., where the family raised cotton, tobacco and peanuts.

 Wynelle served America during her early adult years, building airplanes for the government at the Jacksonville Florida Naval Base. Her responsibilities were putting the belly and wings on airplanes. Women at that time were known as "Rosie the Riveters" because of the responsibilities given to them by the government. It was there she met her husband, Garfield. She married Garfield Christensen July 15, 1946, at Aberdeen. They began farming near Northville, and in 1947 moved to their farm near Athol, where they farmed until his death.

 Wynelle was a member of the Athol and Redfield Congregational Church. Wynelle enjoyed gardening and baking. She so often shared her recipes and gardening items with friends and neighbors.

 Survivors include her five children: Beverly (George) Van Houten, Bloomington, Minn., Betty (Lynn) Julian, Phoenix Ariz., Patsy Herrmann, Black Hawk, S.D., Douglas (Sue) Christensen, Ashton, and Russell (Debbie) Christensen, Athol; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mert Futch, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sallie Chadwick, Moultrie, GAa.; brother Watson McKibben, Fayeville, N.C.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garfield, in 2000; sisters: Edna Francis, Margaret Ricca; and brothers: Alton McKibben, Orvan McKibben and Austin McKibben

Richard Nipp

 Richard Nipp, 69, of Faulkton passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center after a short battle with cancer.

 Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the United Church of Faulkton, with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

 Richard L. Nipp was born May 8, 1943, the fifth child of John and Mary Nipp. After attending Loyalton Grade School, he attended and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1961.

 He met and married Darlene K. Allbee, the love of his life, on July 18, 1964. Together they had three sons: David, infant son James Ray, and Jason.

 After working for several local farmers most of his life, he started working for Common Sense Manufacturing, where he was employed for eight years, until health issues forced him to retire.

 He was a longtime member of the local IOOF chapter, where he served multiple terms as Noble Grand. He enjoyed rolling dice with his friends, as well as playing cards at the Autumn Leaves Senior Center. He was a member of various bowling teams over the years, where both he and Darlene looked forward to the state bowling tournaments. In more recent years, he became a member of Lakeside Country Club where he had taken up, and thoroughly enjoyed, the gentlemen's sport of golf.

 All during his health issues, he always had an upbeat and positive outlook on life and the future. He was a man of compassion and courage and he will be greatly missed.

 Richard is survived by his loving sons: David (Renee) Nipp of Sparrow Bush, N.Y., and Jason Nipp of Woodridge, Ill.; two grandchildren, who will miss him very much, Krystal and James Nipp of Sparrow Bush, N.Y.; one brother, Ted (Kathy) Nipp of Aberdeen; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 He is preceded in death by his wife, son, parents, grandparents, four brothers and one sister.

 Buellton, Calif.: Marilyn Kono, 82, formerly a resident of Cresbard and Aberdeen, passed away in her sleep at her home in Buellton, Calif., Oct. 10, 2012.

 She is survived by four children: Marlene Beram, Danny Kono, Cynthia Drake and Peggy Kono; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Fern Fergen; and brother, Darrell Bacon.

 Memorial service was held for the immediate family in Lompoc, Calif.

 Her children will accompany her ashes to the Fairview Cemetery in Northville in 2013.

 Gettysburg: Bob Tennant, 74, of Gettysburg passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at his home.

 Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at the Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

 Robert Tennant was born July 5, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Irene Tennant. He moved with his mother to Gettysburg, where he attended country school and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1956.

 Following high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during peace time. Except for his two years of military service, Bob lived his entire life in Gettysburg.

 On Aug. 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Nancy Horsley in Draper.

 He worked for Cass Clay for 25+ years, Blue Valley and Northern Plains. In 2004, Bob retired, but continued with lawn care until this past summer.

 Some of Bob's hobbies included camping, fishing, bowling, and spending time with family. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren.

 Bob's life will be cherished by his wife, Nancy, of Gettysburg; his children: Tim (Shawn) Tennant of Gettysburg, Darren (Tawnia) Tennant of Beresford, Chris (Lori) Tennant of Reno, Nev., Robyn Tennant of Aberdeen, Susan (Corrie) Weisser of Rapid City and Cory (Sara) Tennant of Aberdeen; and 16 grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Roselta Tennant.
