Henrietta Jackson, 63, of Hardwick, Minn., born in Luverne, Minn., June 19, 1949, to Abram (Bud) and Mary Anne Ackerman of Beaver Creek, Minn., passed away, Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Cottage Hospice in Luverne, Minn., certain in the belief she would be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

 Henrietta is survived by her parents, Bud and Mary Anne Ackerman; her husband of 40 years, Paul Jackson; Katherine Lynn Richter (Seth Richter) of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Elizabeth Brown (Miles Brown) of Luverne. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Stella Richter of San Diego and Brenna, Zoe, Tom, Zack and Liam Brown also of Luverne.

 She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Stuart Daniel, in August 2012.

 She was for decades proud to be a nurse. She last worked at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minn., and previously at the Wheatcrest Nursing Home in Britton and a Aberdeen nursing home.

 Henrietta's service will be held at the Chapel in the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.

 Her earthly remains are to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund or the Disabled American Veterans.

Mass of Christian burial for Karl Mitzel, 82, of Herreid will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2012, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 Friday at the funeral home and starting at 6 p.m. at the church with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

 Karl passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the Strasburg Care Center.

 Karl Mitzel was born on Nov. 3, 1930, to Edward and Martha (Berreth) Mitzel in Hague, N.D. Karl graduated from Herreid High School in 1948. He taught country school for three years before starting a career at the Campbell County Courthouse that spanned over 46 years as Auditor and Treasurer. He retired in 1997.

 Karl was united in marriage to Virginia Lang on Sept. 22, 1952, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Herreid. They made their home in Herreid and were grateful for their children and grandchildren.

 Karl enjoyed camping with his family and loved to hunt and fish. His spare time was always busy with various bookkeeping  jobs and hobbies.

 Karl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia, of Herreid; four sons: Bruce (Sandy) of Herreid, Tom (Mary) of Herreid, Alan (Cindy) of Keller, Texas, and Terry (Lori) of Hillsboro, N.D.; grandchildren: Michael, Josh, Kelsey, Kayla, Gavin, Dylan and Griffin; brothers and sisters: Maxine Vojta of Mobridge, Archie Mitzel of Herreid, Gladys Braun of Puyallup, Wash., Ruby Hanson of Mesa, Ariz., Jim Mitzel of Mound City, Dale Mitzel of Herreid; and sister-in-law Shirley Mitzel of Morris, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alex Mitzel; and sisters: Ruth Bollinger and Violet Rossow.

Elmer Albrecht

Elmer Albrecht passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at home, lovingly surrounded by family. His memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with interment of his urn at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Memorial visitation begins at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

 Elmer Lawrence Albrecht was born on Jan. 16, 1927, in Pollock to Ferdinand and Elizabeth Albrecht. Elmer grew up in Pollock and completed his schooling there in 1944, and moved to Aberdeen and began work on the Milwaukee Railroad. At age 17, in September 1944, he joined the Navy. Elmer served in the Pacific on the USS Watts and the USS Ebert, both destroyer escorts. After the war ended, his ship visited several ports in China and Philippines before sailing home and entering San Francisco harbor passing under the Golden Gate Bridge. He received an honorable discharge in April 1946, and returned to Aberdeen to work on the Milwaukee Railroad as a mechanical repairman.

 In Aberdeen, he met Virginia, the love of his life, and they were married on April 2, 1947, and lived in Aberdeen for five years, then moved to Red Wing, Minn., for seven years and to Mitchell (1958) for 12 years, finally settling in Sioux Falls in 1971. Elmer worked as a mechanical supervisor for the Milwaukee Railroad for 38 years and finished his railroad years working for the Burlington Northern in Sioux Falls.

 Elmer's love for life was so evident in the amazing way he loved his family and in turn was so loved by them. He always was able to make each of his children and grandchildren feel so special, never missing an opportunity to be part of their lives. Family gatherings at Christmas and the Fourth of July were some of his favorite times. Elmer was a wonderful example as a dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, the strength, courage, and undeniable faith and love for family that he taught all of us is truly remarkable.

 Grateful for having shared in his life are his children: Stan (Linda) Albrecht, Steve (Georgia) Albrecht, Sioux Falls, Bruce (Becky) Albrecht, Aberdeen, Anthony Albrecht, Orlando, Fla. Twelve grandchildren: Amy Gross, Aaron Albrecht, Charlotte VanRoekel, Judd Albrecht, Jamie Vickery, Jen Olenkamp, Tylor Albrecht all of Sioux Falls, Desiree Albrecht and Allyson Albrecht, Orlando Fla., Brandon Schjodt, Yankton; Brent Albrecht, Crystal, Minn., and Scott Albrecht, Aberdeen. Sixteen great-grandchildren: Abby, Zach, Briana, Jacob, Nathan, Nick, Addy, Kailyn, Liam, Mckenzie, Josiah, Brooklyn, Alyse, Talon, Caleb and Isaac. He is also survived by four sisters: Viola Gilberston, Ruby Prouse, Deloris Larson and Doris (Marv) Nickell; and sister-in-law, Loretta Schuff.

 Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (2010); parents; brothers: Irvin and Wilmer; and sisters: Iris and Edith.

Rapid City: Douglas A. Gunderson, 66, of Rapid City and formerly of Langford, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado.

Viola Knittel

Hosmer: Viola Knittel, 85, of Hosmer died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home.

 Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hosmer, with Pastor Patrick Hahn leading the service.

 Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Hosmer.

 Organist will be Wesley Schaible, and ushers will be Vernon Walth and Ivan Schumacher.

 Funeral home visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday, and will resume 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

 Viola Kammerer, daughter of Christina (Rohrbach) and Fred Kammerer, was born March 9, 1927, in Eureka. She was raised on a farm near Hillsview, attended country school, Hosmer School, and eventually earned her GED (Graduate Equivalency Diploma). Following her schooling, she was employed in Hosmer at the telephone company and at a grocery store.

 She married Gerhardt Knittel in Hosmer on Dec. 29, 1953. They lived on a farm east of Hosmer until 1959, when they moved into town. Viola was employed at the Senior Citizens Home for over 20 years. She incurred a stroke in 1995, which prompted her retirement. Viola lived at the Senior Citizens Home since October 1996. Her hobbies included sewing, bowling, quilting, playing cards, dancing, and listening to polka music.

 Viola is survived by two daughters: Wanda Lee (Tom) Wahl and Kristie Lee (Kahlil) Taylor all of Rapid City; one brother, Eugene Kammerer of Dakota Dunes; two sisters: Gertrude Eisenbeisz of Hosmer and Lavina Keene of Boulder, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her father on Oct. 27, 1998; and her mother on Jan. 31, 1993.

 Honorary bearers will be the staff at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home.

 Casketbearers will be Viola's grandchildren: Jordan and Carley Taylor and Abigail and Thomas Wahl Jr., all of Rapid City; as well as her sons-in-law: Tom and Kahlil.

S. Rachel Brossart OSB

Yankton: S. Rachel Brossart OSB, 95, died in the Sacred Heart Monastery Care Center in Yankton on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.

 A wake service was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, and a funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., both at Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel in Yankton.

 Burial was in the monastery cemetery.

 Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz and Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

 Margaret Brossart was born Sept. 17, 1917, the second of five children of Michael and Magdalena (Schmidt) Brossart of Aberdeen. Her parents were born in Russia and immigrated to the United States when they were in their early teens. Margaret attended St. Mary's Grade School and Central High Public School in Aberdeen.

 Margaret entered Sacred Heart Monastery on Aug. 31, 1935. She was invested as a novice on June 23, 1936, and received the name Rachel. She made her first profession on June 24, 1937, and made her final profession on June 23, 1940.

 S. Rachel served as an elementary teacher for many years. She began her ministry at Sacred Heart School in Yankton and went on to serve in Webster, Stephan, Sioux Falls, Salem and Hoven, all in South Dakota; Richardton in North Dakota; and Hartington, St. James, Omaha and Lincoln, all in Nebraska. She began teaching in 1937, and took college courses during the summers. She received her BA from Mount Marty College on Aug. 4, 1963. During her career, she taught all grades from second to eighth grade. After leaving education, she served as the Sacristan for Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel for a number of years. This ministry gave her extra time for prayer, and she offered hospitality to visitors to the chapel.

 S. Rachel was a woman with a ready smile and kind nature. She collected jokes and loved sharing them with others. She is survived by her Benedictine community and nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
