Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service at 5 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.

Frank passed away from pulmonary fibrosis at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls on Oct. 16, 2012, at the age of 89.

Frank Ashley Howe was born on Jan. 26, 1923, in Cresbard to Frank Ashton and Sarah Francis (Rosenau) Howe. This is the area where he was raised and attended school, where he was active in the basketball and baseball programs.

Frank was united in marriage to Dorothy Susanna Leisen on Aug. 25, 1948, at Aberdeen. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Chelsea area for a few years before moving to the Cresbard area, where they raised their family.

In 1982, the family moved to Faulkton, where they resided until 1997, when they moved to Aberdeen. Dorothy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease approximately 10 years ago, and is currently residing at Faulkton Healthcare Center. Frank continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

Frank was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen and a past member of local organizations. He loved playing cards, golfing, watching the Minnesota Twins, playing and, later, listening to music. Last month, he attended the Glen Miller Orchestra with family members. He especially cherished the time spent with his large family. Frank was a hard-working and humble man who lived his life as an example for his kids and grandkids. As a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, he will be greatly missed, but will remain forever in our hearts.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; his seven children: Robert (Evie) Howe of Sioux Falls; Randall (Ledy) Howe of Prospect, Conn.; Richard (Pam) Howe of Tea; Deborah (Gary) Twedt of Sioux Falls; Russell (Annie) Howe of Bath; Frank (Joy) Howe of Brandon; and Kimberly (Mike) Grote of Mina; 34 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
