Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Lucille I. Krueger was born Feb. 27, 1926, to Albert and Elsie (Holm) Krueger in Ipswich, S.D. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Ipswich. Lucille graduated from Ipswich High School.
Lucille married Martin "Ole" P. Sherman on June 9, 1946, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They farmed in the Wetonka area from 1951 until the fall of 1966, when they moved to Aberdeen. Lucille was a loving wife and mother and worked by her husband's side on the farm. In Aberdeen, she worked at Herberger's in the accessary department for many years. Ole passed away Sept. 8, 1990. Lucille continued to make Aberdeen her home. She married Arthur Rau on April 11, 1998, in Aberdeen.
Lucille was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a foster grandparent with The Learning Tree for 10 years. She enjoyed gardening and loved watching her grandchildren eat peas straight from the garden. She was a wonderful cook and made many Sunday family dinners. Playing games, especially Aggravation, with her family was a favorite pastime of hers. She almost always had a jigsaw puzzle set up that the family would all work on when they visited. Lucille wrote many poems to her grandchildren over the years that the family greatly treasures.
Grateful for having shared Lucille's life are her husband, Art Rau, Aberdeen; her daughter, Susan Anderson, Aberdeen; five grandchildren: Jesse Anderson, Aberdeen; David Anderson, Matthew Anderson, both of Sioux Falls; Wendy (Jeff) VandeBerg, Mitchell; Ross Walker, Aberdeen; six great-grandchildren: Hunter, Harrison and Huett Anderson, Brittany VandeBerg, Alexis VandeBerg (Jeremy Jenning), and Jessica Walker; one great-great-grandson, Paxton VandeBerg; her sister, Lola Jean (Eldon) Eckert, Crosslake, Minn.; five stepchildren: Roger (Cheri) Rau, Omaha, Neb.; Linda (Dan) Schmillen, Denver, Colo.; Sandra (Paul) Wermerson, Sioux Falls; Kathy (Mike) Berry, Rapid City; and Robin (Scott) Quick, Omaha, Neb.; 10 stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
