Orville "Buster" Huffman

Groton: Services for Orville "Buster" Huffman, 85, of Groton will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Pastor Ken Skorseth will officiate. Burial will follow in Groton Union Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.

 Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

 Buster passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Rosewood Court in Groton. 

 Orville "Buster" Huffman was born on Jan. 19, 1928, to Jacque C. and Elfrieda (Barthle) Huffman in Groton. He graduated from Groton High School in 1945. He continued his education at SDSU in Brookings, enlisting in the US Army in Dec. of 1950. Orville served with the Mountain Arsenal Company in Colorado for several years and was honorably discharged in Sept. of 1953.

 On Sept. 19, 1952, he married Iva Mae Berkeness in Denver and later moved to Groton, where he farmed and served as a rural mail carrier for over 20 years. He also prepared income tax for several years.

 Buster enjoyed farming, gardening, bowling, the outdoors and was always ready to help anyone in need. He was also an avid Twins and Vikings fan. He loved living on the farm and always felt at home working his cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and putting up hay. Buster was a member of the United Church of God, baptized in 1953 and was later ordained as a deacon.

 Celebrating his life through memories are his children: Michael Huffman of Pelican Rapids, Minn., Susan Davis of Demopolis, Ala., Douglas Huffman of Las Vegas, Nev., Katherine (Mike) Hofer of Winnipeg, M.B., Pamela (Alan) Gordon of Moorhead, Minn., Laura (Ken) Dean of Aberdeen, Mark (Bev) Huffman of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Buster is also survived by his brothers: Jack (Betty) Huffman of Selby, Charlie (Maryerlene) Huffman of Kelseyville, Calif.; step-brother, Kenneth (Sylvia) Goodwin of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; and two sisters: Treva (Will) Brown of Rupert, Idaho and Fern (Gordon) Stewart of Ludington, Mich.; and a very special friend Donna Hannon, Groton.

 Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; and brother, Henry.

 Casket bearers will be: Michael Huffman, Doug Huffman, Mark Huffman, Ken Dean, Erik Dean and Josh Wendt.
